time to go!

Today is the day that I leave Kampong Thom. Holy cats, I can’t believe it’s already here. The mixed emotions associated with our departure are staggering: elation, excitement, anticipation, sadness, and nostalgia all mix to create one seriously heady brew. I will miss the COWS staff and the friends I have made here. I will miss the work, the villages, and the people we serve. I’ll also miss Kampong Thom, oddly enough. The cold showers, ceaseless mud, lack of culinary variation, and fishy market smells all seem rather charming now that I have to go. Whatever way you slice it, though, we’re leaving, and I may never be back. It’s a sad thought as I watch the elephant and tiger statue disappear into the rear view.

Though sadness is definitely a reality, I can’t help but be excited to the max about what Marrisa, Alicia, and I are about to embark on. Here it is in a nutshell:

  1. I’ve heard that Bangkok and Chiang Mai are wonderful cities to visit. Your travels to Vietnam remind me of my brothers time serving there during the Vietnam War. How times have changed!

  2. Don’t think you’ll need luck, dear niece, but I’ll wish it for you anyway. Someone with your personality and drive should get a big ‘Woo-Hoo!’ though.
    Love,love,love…
